Challenging conventions is in the DNA of Christopher Ward, so we’re always attracted to work with partners that do the same. If Opera is taking one of the great art forms and making it accessible – not only to new audiences – but also to the next generation of opera singers by giving them a platform so rarely available in the traditional houses.

Mike France, CEO & Co-founder, Christopher Ward

At Quilter Cheviot, we are proud to support If Opera in its mission to make world-class opera accessible, inclusive, and inspiring. As longstanding advocates of the arts and culture, we believe in the transformative power of music and performance to bring communities together and spark meaningful dialogue.

Nick Ramsey, Investment Director

If Opera has been a champion of opera for over 30 years, with a clear and unwavering commitment to three core principles:

  • delivering a rich and diverse program of opera and associated music for all ages

  • supporting emerging and re-emerging artists

  • deepening our impact in schools and the wider community

We pride ourselves on our people-centred approach, which ensures fair pay, stable employment and the opportunity for our artists to perform diverse roles across a repertory ensemble company. This model not only supports the well-being of our singers but also enables us to bring high-quality, accessible opera to new audiences through distinctive venues, thrilling performances and engaging community initiatives.

Each year, If Opera thrives through a collaboration of its small executive team, 100+ volunteers, 150 Patrons and Friends and a growing audience. Together, we support over 60 emerging artists and engage 100 schoolchildren, as well as 80 isolated older adults, through our creative learning program. Our work extends into schools across Wiltshire and Somerset, nurturing the next generation of opera lovers. Operating with a sustainable model, our record-breaking 2025 season attracted over 3,000 attendees, 46% of whom were new bookers.
